Desc: The Murder Dog Trial: Directed by Steve Hullfish. With William Hullfish, Laurie Verbridge. In the summer of 1936, on the 4th of July, shortly after the national media circus of the Lindbergh kidnapping trial, a dog was put on trial for murder. This became international news. Paramount set multiple newsreel crews out to cover the story. It made headlines in nearly every major national city and even internationally. It happened immediately before the "Hitler" Olympics of 1936 that Jesse Owens dominated. But between those two major news events, this was the story that captured the national attention. The dog, Idaho, supposedly drowned 14 year old Maxwell Breeze in the Erie Canal on the hottest day on record in that small town. How is it that a dog was put on trial for murder? Shockingly we discover that this was one of MANY trials of dogs and even pigs that were accused of killing people.
